Rome, 21 November 2023 – Seminar Dinner. FMG meets the Chairman of Enea Dialuce and the President of the “Noi Moderati” Parliamentary Group, MP Maurizio Lupi
On 21 November, the Magna Grecia Foundation hosted a meeting entitled "Nuclear energy: opportunities and perspectives" at the Hotel de La Ville in Rome. In attendance were the president of ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), Gilberto Dialuce, and the president of the “Noi Moderati” parliamentary group, MP Maurizio Lupi. The aim was to talk on a topic that has returned to the forefront of the Italian and European public debate. A critical issue at a time when it is necessary and urgent to take a path that will allow the country to achieve energy independence and at the same time comply with the ambitious goals of climate neutrality.
"Fortunately, research has made great progress in this regard, allowing us to throw caution to the wind on this issue. In a short time, we could achieve the production of fourth-generation nuclear power and the grounding of safe and clean small modular reactors, but we must stand by this to the end", said the president of the Magna Grecia Foundation, Nino Foti, who brought together the most important stakeholders on the subject in order to raise awareness toward the issue.
"We set up the National Platform for Sustainable Nuclear Energy at the Ministry of the Environment, which gathered only once. In November, Europe voted to direct us all towards nuclear energy and it seems to me that we ensured our support," said Maurizio Lupi, adding: "perhaps we should do more so as to avoid ideological wars on the future of national energy and pursue a shared path. Dialuce added that "if the government gave us the green light, we could start with small nuclear power reactors in 2030, then fourth-generation power plants in 2040 and by 2050 we could turn nuclear fusion into reality".
